Parallel shaft gear motors are not designed to use bevel gears like right angle gear motors. Instead, they use the following gear types:
Helical gear reducer. They have teeth that are inclined relative to the axis of rotation. Therefore, they can transmit more power and speed. Plus, they're the best type when looking for quiet, long-lasting actuators.
Spur gear reducer. It is the most common model. The teeth in its gears are straight and parallel to the drive shaft of the reducer.
Double helical gear reducer. These gears are used when there is a significant thrust load associated with the required rotation of the shaft itself.
Advantages of Parallel Shaft Gear Motors
Wide range of power and torque. Specifically, parallel shaft gear motors are available with a power of up to 200 kW and a rated torque of up to 20,000 Nm.
They offer better efficiency because they perform better at high torques and withstand high radial forces.
Low sound level and vibration.
As a disadvantage, they tend to be larger in size than other types of gear motors. This is due to the arrangement of its components requiring more space.
